Salon Le Mesnil 1969 is a remarkable example of mature Champagne, combining the precision and mineral character of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger Chardonnay with the depth and complexity that only decades of bottle age can provide.
In the glass, the wine shows a deep golden colour. The nose is wonderfully mature, offering layers of dried citrus, honey, roasted hazelnuts, toasted brioche and dried apple, with a subtle mineral character underneath.
On the palate, the wine is remarkably concentrated yet graceful. The vibrant acidity provides structure and freshness, while the long ageing has brought remarkable tertiary complexity. The texture is refined and almost creamy, with flavours of citrus peel, toasted nuts and honey developing beautifully across the palate.
The finish is exceptionally long, dry and elegant, with a lingering mineral and citrus character. At this stage, the wine is less about youthful freshness and more about complexity, finesse and evolution.
